HOW DOES IT WORK?
There are various ways to take part in The Electronic Wake but the basic, essential building blocks for this artistic and social reaction chamber are your personal video testimonials.
Content
You can choose to talk about a friend who’s no longer here with you, about the role of hiv/aids in your life, about your concerns, your points of view, your experience, etc. The testimonials are shot on a videocamera in a very simple way by a member of The Electronic Wake team. You have the option of expressing yourself freely or answering a series of questions.
Shooting
Your testimonial can be recorded at Parc de l’Espoir on weekend evenings or at any other place and time that suits your needs. To record your testimonial in the park, simply stop by when activities are under way (where and when?). To arrange to meet with a volunteer interviewer some other time, please email us at
info@electronicwake.com.
The experience usually takes between 5 and 15 minutes. A number is assigned to each testimonial. Your number is shot for 5 seconds at the beginning of the video, followed by your personal testimonial. Each number is unique and gives the testimonial its own identity. That unique identity is what makes your testimonial so significant for The Electronic Wake.
The image of a star is also used for all testimonials because we recognize the valuable contribution of the individuals who have the courage to share some of their experiences and ideas, which contributes to the collective intimacy we’re trying to create. We believe that your star -- like each star shining in the sky – will add its light to this road that is sometimes dark for so many people.
Inclusion
After your testimonial has been recorded, you can decide whether to include it in The Electronic Wake catalogue so it can be viewed on one of the video display sculptures that are part of the art installation. You can add your testimonial immediately or wait to do it later. Once your testimonial has been added, you can have it removed at any time if you change your mind. Your freedom is the foundation for a successful testimonial.
Keys
Three virtual keys are needed in order to include your testimonial in the video catalogue. You are responsible for the first key, which lets you decide whether you want to add your testimonial. The second key is held by the interviewer, who must be comfortable with your testimonial before it can be added. The third key is held by an organizer from The Electronic Wake, who has to ensure that your content respects the event’s theme and code of honour. Your testimonial will remain a part of The Electronic Wake as long as all three keys are present.
Rights
It is not necessary to release any rights because you are distributing your own testimonial. The Electronic Wake provides you only with the necessary technical means. Your participation is entirely free.
